How our Program Works
1. You must be a resident of Calaveras County
2. The cat must be a feral, semi feral or stray cat. a. Feral cats usually live outdoors and avoid human contact. They usually remain hidden from humans. b. Semi-ferals might be friendly towards you, but not any other human. c. Stray cats are not owned by anyone but live on or around your property. d. You must agree to supply food, fresh water and shelter for any cats on your property that we assist you with. e. If you have a pet cat, contact Calaveras Humane Society at 209-736-9417. They have a low income voucher program for Calaveras residents only.
3. Contact Us. a. You MUST contact us at 209-897-1400 before making any appointment so that we can advise you on your situation and determine if we can help. b. If approved, we pay for or subsidize the spay or neuter and a rabies vaccination. c. We will reimburse a maximum of $90 for a female and $60 for a male. d. We can not reimburse you if you contact us for the first time after the cat is spayed or neutered.
4. Traps a. The cat must arrive at the vet in a covered cat trap, or you will be turned away. b. If you need to borrow a trap, we have them to loan, with a refundable security deposit of $50. c. Please be aware of how to trap for TNR. Our phone volunteers are happy to assist with advice, tips and tricks.
5. ALL cats are ear-tipped in surgery - no exceptions A tipped ear is a universal sign that a cat has been spayed/neutered and will never again reproduce.
